I landed Chicago airport on my return trip at around 8:30 A.M. And when I was going through transit to international terminal 5, I saw one Indian girl crying and asking for help. She by mistake came out of the revolving exit gate as she wanted to go to rest room. And the security girl sitting near the revolving gate was not allowing her to go back as she was not carrying the passport and boarding pass. She had left it(passport and pass) with her husband who was waiting for her in Chillies restaurant.
Technically, she did a mistake as she got out without reading the hoardings. But the security girl was not ready to help her and not allowing her to go back. She tried asking help from other passengers who were going through the security check but nobody was bothered of her plight and no one was ready to help her.
Seeing me as an Indian, she told me that her husband name was Bhavesh Patel and she was Gujarati. I could not resist myself to help her. I asked the security girl that if I can go inside back. She said you cannot go but you can go only through security check and for that u need to have boarding pass. And I didn’t have that. So I asked her, “why you are not helping her. Can’t you go inside and call her husband from that place”. She said “It’s her mistake and she need to suffer for that and she can’t help”. I told her “This is inhuman. If you can’t go then please take help of your colleague who is inside there and ask them to call this lady’s husband”. After lot of pursuing, she agreed and called her colleague inside and asked her to call this lady’s husband. And then I left as I was getting late. But I really hoped that the lady would had finally met her husband.
Why I narrated this story is the hospitality factor. Just imagine if this type of thing would have happened in India. Atleast 10 people would have come around for help. Even the security personal would have provided the help and resolved the problem. And I felt really proud of India and I do believe that there is still hope left. Jai Hind.
